I talk a lot about life purpose and marketing.
But finding your life’s purpose can be difficult to do.
Here’s how I see it:
I think of purpose as something practical and functional. It’s a very literal way of looking at it. For example, the purpose of my eyeglasses is to let me see things more clearly (and these 40+ eyes seem to need more and more help each year!).
But it’s not only objects that serve their purpose this way. People do as well.
Every one of us has a purpose in the form of a service we provide. And there are two ways of looking at it.
One way of looking at your purpose is to think of it as your destiny. You feel like you were chosen to follow this path.
But there’s another way to look at it. What if your purpose isn’t about your destiny but your design? Like your personal and professional experiences designed you to do one particular thing really well. It’s a process that happens over time, not something set at birth.
When you listen to people talk about their calling, you often hear things like, “I didn’t choose it, it chose me.”
And that’s exactly how it works.
I didn’t consciously choose to do what I do. If you asked the 5-year old me what he wanted to do when he grew up, he couldn’t have come up with the answer I can give you now. Even the 30-year old me wouldn’t have been able to do it.
You have a clear purpose that will show you how you transform people’s lives. As soon as you find it, everything else will fall in place. You’ll be able to fulfill your calling in a way that lets you live a meaningful life.
