Whenever you deliver a ground-breaking message, you have to face your fears.
Messengers who’ve been through this know what I’m talking about.
And they know it’s a tough thing to do.
How do you get people to listen when you’re so engulfed in fear?
Luckily, you can transcend your fears…
First, let’s break those fears down and help you understand them.
There are two categories of fears. The first has to do with “what.” These are the labels you give your fears when trying to identify them. Some very common examples include:
- What you’re scared of exposing
- What you’re afraid people will say
- What you’re scared will happen when you get the message across
The “what” is fairly easy to identify. You just have to think of what scares you the most about your message. When you do that, you’ll see there aren’t as many things as you might have expected. Mostly, you’ll have a few issues that repeat over and over again.
Aside from the “what,” there’s another much more powerful component of fears – the “who.”
You see, many people don’t realize they’re not afraid of anything that might happen in the future. Their biggest fear is the loss of relationships here and now. They fear their message will make them lose the people they love.
We all have a “who.” We look at our message through this person’s eyes and fear what they might say.
On some level, my “who” was everyone. My biggest fear was that I’d get lost in my own success and the people I cared about would leave me.
And I’ve never entirely gotten over it.
For instance, a rising star of an actor moved in next door to me recently. At the age of 28, he’s already at the level of success that changes a person. As I looked at him, my fear of getting lost in my success came rolling back.
It’s something that happens to me to this day, but I’ve learned how to deal with it. As soon as you do the same, you’ll be one step closer to breaking free. And then you’ll be able to express your message fearlessly.
