Are Things Moving Slow?

#MondayInsight:

I believe that life is always seeking to express itself—through each of us and through the collective, which is how new things emerge in society.

There are streams of energy constantly in motion, and we’re either in the center of the current, drifting off in an estuary, or trying to swim upstream, against the flow.

There seems to be this idea that when you’re in sync with life’s current, everything moves at high speed. Doors open, opportunities arise, serendipity unfolds all around you, and life shifts into high gear.

But if you’ve ever been whitewater rafting, you know it’s not all rapids and speed. Sometimes, you find yourself in the slow, lazy stretches of the river!

Lately I’ve been speaking with people who realize that what used to work for them isn’t working anymore. It’s done; it’s over, and they know it.

Often, they want to leap straight from the old thing to the new one… even if they don’t quite know what that new thing is yet!

They want to jump from rapid to rapid, but what’s actually showing up for them is the slow river…

This slower pace is an invitation to recalibrate, reconnect with their values, and take a pause. It’s a time for letting go of what was, for listening to what’s emerging.

In our culture, especially, we’re not particularly well-versed in honoring the slow moments or in going inward before our next outward expression.

This is where the “go slow to go fast” principle comes into play because everything you need—everything anyone needs—is already in life’s current.

And working against nature will always work against you.

If things feel slow in your life, it could mean you’re out of sync with the flow of life. Perhaps you’re caught in an estuary or paddling upstream, resisting in fear, or not fully listening.

But if things are slow, maybe you’re actually deeply in sync with life’s flow, and it’s inviting you to slow down right now.

This might be the time to reconnect with wonder and awe, to restore your soul. Maybe it’s time for housekeeping, to prune the parts of life or business that no longer belong.

If something new is on the horizon, this slow river season is for gathering the ingredients before you see how they all fit together. Bit by bit, you’ll lay out these pieces until you can start to sense what they’re becoming.

Lately, new relationships with inspiring, beautiful people have been showing up in my life. I’m entering these connections without an agenda, without knowing why they’re appearing now or where they might lead. But I feel, deep down, that they’re purposeful. There’s something here—I don’t know what it is yet, but I’m trusting that it’s part of what’s next.

The incredible thing about being in sync with life’s stream is that you don’t need to know the destination, because the stream knows where it’s going, right? The current knows the way, and if you trust it, it’ll carry you exactly where you’re meant to go.
