Quenching the thirsty
#MondayInsight:
I was talking with a colleague the other day about the second half of the hero’s journey, the return journey home.
Just like there is the “refusal of the call” in the first half of the journey, there’s the “refusal of the return” in the second half of the journey.
It’s when you have the elixir from ‘facing the dragon’ (facing your deepest wounds) on your journey…
And the elixir feels so good that you just want to bathe in it and hang out with other elixir-holders!
If you’re dragging your feet on the return journey home, here’s the important thing to remember…
“Refusing the return” is often rooted in the belief that we’re going to have to bring the elixir to people who aren’t asking for it…
And as we all know, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.”
But that’s not who the elixir is for!
You don’t have to try giving the elixir to people who have no thirst.
You’re not here to convert the unwilling and you’re not called to bring your elixir to people who aren’t asking for it.
You’re called to bring the elixir to people, groups and communities that are at the end of their rope and are asking for something more.
They’re parched and asking for something different, something transformative, something almost magical…
They’re asking for the elixir.
And because “a master of two worlds,” who knows both the mundane, ordinary world and the magical, transformed world, you exude the elixir they’re hungry for, which is why they feel, sense, and experience that you’ve got what they need…
So long as you show up so they can see it.
Let’s quench the thirst of the thirsty.
