How do you decide on your ideal audience?

Because here’s the thing… 

If you don’t have this figured out, most of your other efforts won’t really matter. 

Let me explain.

When you first start out as a coach, you just want to do the thing you’re passionate about! 

And much to your dismay, you soon find out that while people might congratulate you for living your passions…

Not many people want to buy.

When I started out I was so lost when it came to marketing and getting leads that 

I’d market to just about anyone, anywhere… I was using what I now call the “3P marketing strategy:”

If someone had a problem, a pulse, and a pocketbook, that person was a prospect

You  know what I’m talking about?!? 

I just get so desperate for clients (without knowing who I should be speaking to), that I’d work with just about anybody with any sort of problem.

Relationship issues? I’ll coach that!

Business troubles? I’ll coach that too?

Need to help your mortgage brokers produce more? Yep, I’ll coach your people (even though I had never purchased a home at that time).

Basically, if you had a problem and were willing to pay for my help, I’d do my best to enroll you!

The biggest problem with this (besides it being a horrendous marketing strategy) is that I was always hustling. 

If I was at a birthday party, I’d secretly be scouring for prospects.

Talking to people after yoga? I was scouring for prospect then too.

Everywhere I went, I was like this famished business owner on the hunt (all the while trying in vain not to let people see how desperate I was).

Maybe you’ve been there too?

Now don’t get me wrong…in my experience, some time spent in this kind of sifting and sorting is a necessary step in the refinement process. 

And then you get your first few people, who you magically meet and they say,“Wow, you’re exactly what I’m looking for!”? They become a client who just clicks with you right away… and it’s amazing, right?!? 

It’s as if the universe is a matchmaker… and it just keeps creating strong bonds between you and the people who can benefit the most from what you do.

The only problem is, it’s intermittent. 

You just can’t count on it!

Sure, there are times when you meet some amazing people all in a row…

You love working with them, and love the money that’s rolling in.

But then it stops…

And you don’t know when the universal matchmaker will get back to work!

Do you know what I’m talkin about?

I call this the “fingers crossed” approach to lead generation. 

It’s exciting when it works, but frustrating as hell when it doesn’t. 

I think the Universe gives you some “freebies” if you will…

People it sends across your path to show you who needs what you’ve got and why they need it.

The thing is, while I believe with all my heart that the Universe is on your side and will always support you, relying only on the “fingers crossed” strategy for your business may sustain you, but it probably won’t help your business scale and grow beyond the here-and-there 1:1 client coming in. 

That’s no way to live in my opinion. 

And staying in that hopeful but kinda desperate space won’t help you do your life’s work.

Because I know you have a message for the world…

With work that’s meant to go beyond the 1:1 service delivery model.

So let’s get you clear, shall we? 

Clear on who really needs what you’ve got, why they need it, when they need it and why you’re the one to bring it… 

Because  these answers will lay the foundation for your message and work to get into the hands and hearts of those who need it most…

And help you create the kind of messaging and marketing that will scale your business so you have the resources to think big and serve at the scale you’re called to.
